Mountains

The mountains are calling, and I must go.

  • A large snow covered mountain dominates the frame, with some wispy clouds in an otherwise blue sky. The rock faces are complexly textures and contain wavy bands of subtle differences in colour from what I believe is their sedimentary origins. There is a very small building visible on the ridge line at the top left of the frame, which just amplifies the sense of scale of the natural features. The scene is brightly lit, making the snow extremely bright and providing stark contrast against the almost black rock. There is another slope visible in the bottom left foreground that forms one edge of the glacier in the center of the frame, where we can see the dirtier ice of the terminus.
  • This largely brown rocky mountain occupies the bottom two thirds of the frame, with it's summit capped in snow. It's left half is mostly wonderfully textured light brown rock, with a horizontal band of striated darker grey running through roughly the middle of the visible portion. It's right half is mostly covered in brilliant white snow, showing signs of parts having sheared off in small avalanches at some point prior. There are very few shadows, but those that are visible are quite high contrast, as this face of Mönch was being directly light by the bright August midday sun. The sky is a grainy blue that gradually darkens towards the top of the frame, with barely a few wisps of cloud visible.
  • A bright white, subtly crevassed snow covered glacier occupies the bottom 1/5th of the frame. Beyond it stretches an enormous valley formed of rocky, dark grey and light brown mountains bordering the ribbon of crusty white and grey glacier ice that stretches off into the distance. A wavy darker line runs almost parallel to the border of the ribbon on either side, seeming to grow closer together as the perspective shifts with distance. The two valley sides and a pyramidal mountain converge on a point just off center of the frame where the glacier then disappears from view behind the mountains to the right. The pyramidal shaped mountain at the end of the visible section of glacier has a barely visible small building near it's summit. The sky is a pale blue, with two fluffy clouds sat above a backdrop of a hazy mountain range that almost forms a smiley face with the shape of the ridge line. There are a scattering of lower level fluffy white clouds closer in altitude to the summits of these mountains in the far distance, but none are occluding the summits.
